Five-time champion Brazil's top contender of the title has been stopped by Switzerland, in the first World Cup match, stuck to the 1-1 draw. This is the first time since 1978 in the FIFA World Cup when the Brazilian team failed to win the initial match.

40 years ago in the 1978 World Cup Group-3 in their opening match, Sweden had stopped Brazil 1-1. Brazil made the lead in the first half, with the help of a goal made in the 17th minute of Philippe Coutinho, But the Switzerland team did not lose patience and waited for the spot and Switzerland's equalized goal was scored by Steven Juber in the 50th minute.
