According to the NITI Aayog Water Management Index report, the country is battling the biggest water crisis in history. Millions of lives and their livelihood is in danger. According to this report released jointly by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chairman of the NITI Aayog, Rajiv Kumar, about 75%of the households do not have drinking water available. Pipes do not reach 84% of rural households and 70% of the country's water is not suitable for drinking.
Given the seriousness of the water crisis, Union minister Nitin Gadkari says that about 60 crore people of the country are facing the severe shortage of water and two lakh people are being killed every year due to lack of clean water. According to the report, this problem is going to take a more volatile form.
