Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Two-Day Visit to India

  • Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reached Delhi this evening on the second leg of his two-day visit to India. He was received in the airport by Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
  • This is the first visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to India. He is being accompanied by his spouse and a High-Level Delegation. Earlier in the day, the visiting dignitary arrived in Agra where he visited the Taj Mahal.
  • The Uzbek President will be paid a Guard of Honour at Rashtrapati Bhawan tomorrow after which he will visit Raj Ghat and pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi. Mr. Mirziyoyev will hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in the afternoon.
  • He will also meet President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
  • Relations between India and Uzbekistan have traditionally been close and cordial. Since 2011, the two countries have elevated their relations to the level of "Strategic Partnership” encompassing cooperation in a wide spectrum of areas including political, economic, education, health, human resource development, defense, counter-terrorism, science and technology, culture and tourism.
