1. Mahathir Bin Mohamad as the Prime Minister of Malaysia has been appointed. He is a senior politician of Malaysia and already served on the Prime Minister's post from 1981 to 2003. Mahathir has also served on the post of Deputy Prime Minister, Defense Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister.
2. Carlos Alvarado has been appointed as President of Costa Rica. He is the youngest president of the country in modern history. Costa Rica is a country located in Central America. Its capital is San Jose.
3. Jaswant Singh Vishnoi has been appointed as Chairman of Rajasthan Khadi and Village Industries Board. Vishnoi has been a MLA from Jodhpur parliamentary constituency and a legislator from Luni. Earlier, he has served as the Chairman of Central Wool Development Board.
4. First Responder Bike Ambulance Service has been started in Rajasthan. Where large ambulances cannot be reached due to traffic, these bikes ambulance will reach there and help the patients.
5. In Haryana, 31 government colleges have been announced for girls. These colleges are being started with the aim of promoting higher education among girls in small towns and rural areas of Haryana.
6. Rajinder Pal Singh was a former cricket player of Delhi. They represented India in a Test match 1964, recently passed away.
7. Lalita Chatterjee was a famous film actress. She started her film career with the Bengali film 'Bewas' and also worked in movies like 'Victoria No. 203', 'Aap Ki Kasam', and 'Chori Chori' in Bollywood career. Lalita has passed away recently.
8. The World Red Cross Day is celebrated on May 8 every year. This day is celebrated in memory of Henry Dunant. He was the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Henry was also honored with the Nobel Peace Prize. He was the first person to be honored with Nobel peace prize.
9. India conducted nuclear tests on May 11, 1998. These five tests were done in Pokhran, Rajasthan, just 150 km away from the border. They included a fusion atomic device of 45 kilotons. It is known as hydrogen bomb. The nuclear test included the fission equipment of 15 kilotons and the accessories of 0.2 kilotons. After these tests, major countries, including Japan and the US, had imposed various restrictions on India.
10. The Supreme Court of India has held that a woman can lodge a complaint under the domestic violence law against the cruel acts committed by her ex-husband even after the dissolution of marriage.
11. Hockey India has appointed Harendra Singh as the chief coach of the Indian men’s hockey team, replacing Sjoerd Marijne who will return back to his responsibility as coach of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team.
12. ‘Hour of Code’ campaign launched in India by Disney will teach computer programming to school children through online tutorial featuring characters from Disney movie ‘Moana’.
13. Nobel laureate and well-known economist Muhammad Yunus was awarded the 11th KISS Humanitarian Award 2018 as part of a function held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
14. Union Government approves green licence plates for private electric vehicles. The government also announced its plan to allow youth of 16-18 years to drive electric scooters. As per the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, those in the age group of 16-18 years can be granted with licence for below 50 CC gearless scooters.
15. India, World Bank sign USD 200 million loan agreement for National Nutrition Mission. The PM’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment (POSHAN) Abhiyaan, also known as National Nutrition Mission, was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 8, 2018 at Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan.
