- The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by 14th Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, approved the appointment of Economist Surjit S. Bhalla as IMF Executive Director for India for a period of 3-years.
- Surjit Bhalla replaced Subir Gokarn (Former RBI Deputy Governor), who had passed away on 30th July in the US.
- On 1st December 2018, he had resigned as a member of the Prime Minister Economic Advisory Council (PMEAC).
