Amritsar train accident; Nearly 65 dead, CM Amarinder Singh orders Magisterial inquiry


  • Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh today visited Civil Hospital in Amritsar where injured have been admitted. Later, talking to media persons, the Chief Minister said that most of the bodies have been identified.
  • Punjab Chief Minister has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident under the police commissioner. He said that he has asked Divisional Commissioner Jalandhar to probe Amritsar Train Accident from all aspects and submit the report in 4 weeks.
  • He added that the government will take action against anyone found responsible for the terrible tragedy. He was talking to media persons after visiting Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar where injured have been admitted. He also ordered the immediate release of Rs 3 crore to DC Amritsar for payment of ex-gratia to the deceased.
  • Meanwhile, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has set up a crisis management group of his Cabinet colleagues to monitor the relief and rehabilitation efforts in the wake of the tragic train accident.
  • The Chief Minister has announced immediate ex-gratia compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of those killed.
    All private hospitals have also been asked to stay open, along with government hospitals, to provide urgent free treatment and care to the injured.
  • A state mourning has been declared for on Saturday, and all offices and educational institutions will remain closed in Punjab.
