Rashtriya Kisan Diwas being celebrated to increase active participation of women in agriculture


  • Mahila Kisan Diwas is being celebrated today to increase the active participation of women in agriculture. Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh will address the function in New Delhi this afternoon.
  • Women farmers, entrepreneurs, farming organizations, agricultural scientists and researchers from different states will participate in the event.
  • In 2016, the Ministry had decided to observe 15th of October as Rashtriya Mahila Kisan Diwas. Women are contributing to various aspects of agriculture including sowing, planting, fertilizing, plant protection, harvesting, weeding, and storage.
  • In Bihar, Mahila Kisan Diwas is being celebrated across the state to increase active participation of women in agriculture. The main function was organized in Patna where Agriculture Minister Prem Kumar participated. Addressing the function Mr. Kumar said women are playing a multi-dimensional role in agriculture.
  • The Minister said the center has taken major steps to increase the income of farmers.
  • The Minister felicitated those women farmers who have made remarkable contributions in the field of agriculture. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, as well as Indian Council of Agriculture (ICAR), have also organized Mahila Kisan Diwas throughout the state in which farmers were briefed about latest in farming technology.
