Archery World Cup Finals: India Wins 3 Medals

  • India has clinched three medals at the Archery World Cup Final in Samsun, Turkey.
  • On a concluding day today, ace Indian Recurve archer Deepika Kumari won a bronze medal. Deepika, who is former world number one, defeated Germany's Lisa Unruh in a shoot-off to bag her fifth medal in seven appearances in the tournament.
  • Both the players were tied at 5-5 at the end of five sets. This necessitated a shoot-off. Deepika and Lisa both shot 9 but Deepika won bronze because her arrow was closer to the center.
  • Deepika had won four silver medals in the World Cup Finals in earlier editions. This was India’s second bronze medal in the competition after Abhishek Verma had bagged a bronze medal in men’s compound event.
  • Abhishek Verma had also won a silver in the mixed team event yesterday after teaming up with Jyothi Surekha Wennem. Korea’s Lee Eun Gyeong clinched the gold medal after defeating Turkey’s Yasemin Anagoz 6-4.
