- Former Indian Navy Chief Admiral Sushil Kumar died at the age of 79 at Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi, after a prolonged illness.
- On 30th December 1998, Sushil Kumar was appointed as the 16th Chief of Indian Navy and a specialist in hydrography and amphibious warfare.
- Mr. Kumar authored a book named "A Prime Minister to Remember- Memories of a Military Chief" which highlighted the key defense-related decisions taken by Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
