- The two Tea varieties of Darjeeling have been registered under "Geographical Indication of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999".
- Both the Green Tea and White Tea of Darjeeling have been registered with effect from 24th October 2019, which means that any teas sold as Darjeeling white and green teas in the domestic market without GI will not be considered authentic teas.
- Every year Darjeeling hills of West Bengal are produced around 85,00,000 kg of Tea. Out of this, Green Tea is 10,00,000 kg, While White Tea is 1,00,000 kg.
- A geographical indication (GI) is a name or sign used on products that correspond to a specific geographical location or origin (e.g. a town, region, or country).
