- Padma Shree awardee Thalappil Pradeep (age 56 years) has been elected for the 2020 Nikkei Asia Prize in the Science and Technology category. He is a Chemistry Professor in the IIT Madras.
- Prior to this, he has received the Padma Shri in 2020, and he has also received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in 2008 by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
