Joka Alharthi wins 2019 Man Booker Prize


  • Omani writer Joka Alharthi (age 41 years) won the 2019 Man Booker International Prize for "Celestial Bodies", the story of 3-sisters and a desert country.
  • She becomes the first Arabic-language writer to take this prize,
  • "Celestial Bodies" beat 5 other finalists from Europe and South America, including Olga Tokarczuk (last year's winner).
