Bumpers Production of Pulses, Imported 10 Million Tons Less

During the financial year 2017-18, the import of pulses has decreased by almost ten million tonnes. This has helped the country save the foreign currency of about Rs 9,775 crore. Ministry of Agriculture has given this information. Due to the decline in the import, pulses have a better production. The Government said in the statement that this was possible due to the policies made by the government for the welfare of farmers.

The reason for the increase in poultry production is being proposed as a good monsoon and high support price for the government's farmers. After the price of pulses exceeding Rs 200 per kg in the retail market in the year 2016, the central government has taken several steps to promote pulse production and make the country self-reliant.

Every year India imports around 40 to 60 million tonnes of pulses to meet the domestic demand of pulses. Given the heavy production of pulses, the central government has imposed import duty on pulses and has imposed certain restrictions on several varieties of pulses.
