- The General Secretary of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party K. Anbazhagan passed away in Apollo Hospital, Chennai due to age-related illness. He was 97 years.

- They served as DMK General Secretary for 9-times. He has been elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly 9-times and holds several positions like Finance, Education and Health, and Social Welfare in the M. Karunanidhi-led Government.
- Before entering politics, he was a Professor (Tamil) in Pachaiyappa's College. For the first time, he was elected from Egmore to the Madras Legislative Assembly in 1957.
