A match referee had warned Australian cricketer, Steve Smith and David Warner, to join the ball tampering incident during the domestic Sheffield Shield tournament in 2016. Smith and Warner were caught in the third test against South Africa while planning to tamper with the ball. Thereby banning them for one year. Captain and sub-captaincy were also snatched from these two respectively.
