- Veteran actor, playwright and film director Girish Karnad passed away in Bengaluru due to multi-organ failure. He was 81-years.
- Jnanpith awardee Girish Karnad was also received the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Karnataka Government’s Rajyotsava Award.
- Girish was won 4-Filmfare Awards, of which 3 for Best Director - Kannada and the 4th one for Best Screenplay.
