CCI Imposes Rs 74 crore Penalty On Pharma Companies


  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) imposed over Rs 74 crore penalty on the Chemists and Druggists Association and Pharmaceutical Companies i.e.
    - Rs 4,18,404/- on Madhya Pradesh Chemists and Druggist Association (MPCDA)
    - Rs 39,142/- on Indore Chemists Association (ICA)
    - Rs 18,59,58,000/- on Himalaya Drug Company (HDC)
    - Rs 55,59,68,000/- on Intas Pharmaceutical Limited (IPL).
  • The CCCI has found MPCDA, ICA association, HDC & IPL companies along with some of their office bearers/officials to be in contravention of the provisions of the Competition Act, 2002 (‘Act’).
  • The CCI also directed MPCDA to organize at least 5, and ICA to organize 1 competition awareness and compliance programs in the Madhya Pradesh and in the district of Indore.
  • The CCI also directed HDC and IPL to bring into place a Competition Compliance Programme and file a compliance report with the Commission.
