PM increases Rates of Scholarship under National Defence Fund


  • After Lok Sabha election 2019, the first decision of PM Modi Government: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved major changes in the Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) under the National Defence Fund.
  • He increases the rates of scholarship from Rs 2000 to Rs 2500 per month for boys, and Rs 2250 to Rs 3000 per month for girls.
  • This Scholarship Scheme will also cover the wards of State Police Officers who are/were martyred during Terror or Naxal attacks.
  • The quota for new scholarships forwards to the state police officers will be five hundred in a year. The Ministry of Home Affairs will be the nodal Ministry in this regard.

    Under National Defence Fund (NDF), every year new scholarships are given for:-
  • Rs 5,500/- for Wards of Armed Forces, and it will be controlled by Ministry of Defence
  • Rs 2,000/- for Wards of ParaMilitary Forces, and it will be controlled by Ministry of Home Affairs
  • Rs 150/- for Wards of Forces, and it will be controlled by Indian Railways.
