Australian Famous Golf Player Peter Thomson Died At Aged 88


The Australian famous golf player Peter Thomson, who won the British Open five times, died at the age of 88 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He suffered from this disease past four years.

He died surrounded by his family at home in Melbourne on 20th June mornings. Peter was the first Australian player who won the British Open Titles. He won it 5 times in between 1954 to 1965.

Thomson served as president of the Australian PGA for 32 years. His other major victory was the PGA Seniors' Championship in 1984. Thomson was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1979 for his service to golf, and in 2001 became an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for his contributions as a player and administrator and for community service.
