American shoes, accused of smuggling, Trump imposed on Canada

The relations between the US and Canada are continuously worsening. After imposing the national duty on Canadian metals, Donald Trump again targeted the North American neighbour and claimed that Canadian citizens were smuggling cross-border shoes.

Trump has annoyed Canada with this protectionist step. Trump wants to cancel the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in favour of a new bilateral trade deal.

In a speech, he said that tariffs are high there, the duty on ordinary routine items in Canada is so high that people have to smuggle them to get them. Trump further said that they buy shoes, then they wear them. They wear them down, they make them so that they seem to be old.
