GST Committee reduce the tax rate on EVs from 12 to 5%

The GST Committee has decided to reduce the Tax Rate on Electric Vehicles to 5% from the existing 12%. The new Tax Rate will be effective from 1st August 2019.
The GST Council also reduced the GST on EV chargers from 18% to 5%.
The 36th meeting of the GST Council was chaired by Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman via video conferencing. In this meeting, Minister of State for Finance Mr. Anurag Thakur was also present.
The GST Committee also approved GST exemption for the hiring of Electric Buses by local authorities.
