- Indian writer and diplomat Vikas Swarup (age 56 years) appointed as Secretary, (consular, passport, visa and Overseas Indian affairs) in the External Affairs Ministry, with effect from 1st August 2019.
- Swarup, an IFS 1986-batch cadre officer, is at present India's High Commissioner to Canada.
