- The Lok Sabha passes the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2019 by voice vote. The Bill seeks to establish 2 new universities- Central Universities, and Central Tribal University (CTU) in Andhra Pradesh.
- HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said the Universities will be set up with a cost of Rs.1700 crore in 4-years in Andhra Pradesh. In the first phase, Rs.450 crore will be provided for the Central University and Rs.420 crore for the Central Tribal University.
- He said the government has accorded high priority to strengthen the education system in the country. He said the government has increased the budget of education from Rs.67,000 crore in 2013-14 to Rs.95,000 crore rupees in 2019.
