- Indian chess Grandmaster Magesh Chandran Panchanathan (age 36 years) won the 95th edition of the Hastings International Chess title, which was held at Hastings, England.
- He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2006. And, in 2003 he had won Asian Junior Championship held in Sri Lanka.
