Uttarakhand developed Eco-bridge for Reptiles and Smaller Mammals


  • The Ramnagar Forest Division in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand state has built its first Eco-bridge across Kaladhungi-Nainital Highway for Reptiles and Smaller Mammals.
  • Its Objective,
    - The bridge has been developed in consideration of the increasing concerns of small animals being killed in vehicular accidents.
    - This bridge increases wildlife connectivity, which is hampered by highways.
    - Small animals and reptiles like snakes, squirrels, monitor lizards will cross the road through the bridge and avoid being killed by vehicles.
  • Eco-Bridge,
    - It consists of canopy bridges, concrete underpasses, overpass tunnels, viaducts, amphibian tunnels, and culverts.
