- The 14th President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind honored Indian para-athlete Deepa Malik (age 48 years) with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.
- Deepa is the first female para-athlete to win a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in the shot put.
- In another award category, B Sai Praneeth (shuttler), Poonam Yadav (cricketer), Swapna Barman (heptathlete), Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (footballer), Sonia Lather (boxer), Fouad Mirza (equestrian), Gaurav Gill (motorsports), Punia (cricketer), and Ajay Thakur (kabaddi) were among the 19 sportspersons who received the Arjuna Award from President.
- Remaining, who was not present in the award ceremony- Ravindra Jadeja (cricketer), Tejinder Pal Singh Toor (shot-putter), and Mohammed Anas (athlete), all of who were picked for the 2019 Arjuna Award.
