- On 15th August (Independence Day), Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched Jal Jeevan Mission Scheme. PM Modi said around Rs 3,50,000 crore will be spent under this mission to bring water to households through pipes.
- According to NITI Aayog report, Around 600 million peoples of 21 cities, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad are facing high to extreme water stress.
- Under this scheme, The central government is to focus on the creation of local infrastructure for rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and management of household wastewater for reuse in agriculture.
