Indian Space Agency-ISRO sets up SSAM at Peenya in Bengaluru

The Indian Space Agency-ISRO sets up Space Situational Awareness Control Centre (SSAM) at Peenya in Bengaluru. The Chairman of ISRO K. Sivan (age 62 years) laid the foundation stone.
On the occasion, ISRO said that SSAM has become an internationally significant area due to the ever-growing manmade space debris population and the increased collision threat with operational spacecraft.
The objective of this control center would facilitate the intensified activities foreseen for SSAM, in view of the increasing debris population and operational space assets.
The SSAM Center would organize a series of activities related to the protection of Indian space assets against inactive satellites, pieces of objects in orbit, near-Earth asteroids and adverse weather conditions.
