Indian Navy launched 'Air Evacuation Pod' for Coronavirus patients


  • The Indian Navy has launched the 'Air Evacuation Pod' for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection. This pod has been indigenously designed and fabricated by Naval Aircraft Yard (Kochi) under Southern Naval Command (SNC).
  • Objective,
    - The purpose of this is to safe air evacuation of COVID-19 infected patients from remote areas. It is a fully sealed patient transfer capsule eliminating the risk of cross-infection to pilots and evacuation teams.
  • Highlights,
    - It weighs only 32 kg and its manufacturing cost is Rs 50,000/- which is only 1% of the cost of an imported equivalent item (Rs 59,00,000/-).
    - And, this pod is made of Aluminum, Nitrile Rubber, and Perspex.
