- Noted Iraqi architect, photographer Rifat Chadirji passed away at London on 10th April 2020 due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection. He was 93 years.
- He was also known as the father of modern Iraqi architecture, having designed more than 100 buildings across the country.
- Although Chadirji designed many residences and buildings including;
i) Central Post Office (1975).
ii) Hamood Villa (1972).
iii) National Insurance Company.
iv) Offices and Tobacco Warehouses (1965).
v) The Monument to the Unknown Soldier (erected 1959: replaced 1983).
vi) Rafiq Residence (1965).
