- In an official announcement, the Malaysia and Thailand weightlifters have been banned from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to Doping by the Independent Member Federation Sanctions Panel (IMFSP) of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).
- Due to this, the membership status of the Thai Amateur Weightlifting Association (TAWA) has been suspended for three years. While the Malaysian Weightlifting Federation (MWF) is suspended for a period twelve months.
