- Noted Ugandan-South African scientist and researcher in HIV prevention Gita Ramjee passed away due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in Umhlanga, Durban (South Africa). She was 64 years.
- Gita was awarded the 'Outstanding Female Scientist' award from the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership.
- She was the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) at the Aurum Institute in Johannesburg, South Africa, as well as director of the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) Prevention Research Unit.
