BP Kanungo re-elected as RBI Deputy Governor for 1-year


  • The Reserve Bank of India has re-elected B. P. Kanungo as RBI Deputy Governor for a period of 1-year with effect from 3rd April 2020. His term was to end on 2nd April 2020. Whereas, he has appointed as RBI Deputy Governor in April 2017.
  • Department of Currency Management, External Investments & Operations, Government & Bank Accounts, Department of Information Technology and Department of Payment & Settlement System, Legal, Foreign Exchange, Internal Debt are under him.
  • Reserve Bank Of India (RBI),
    - RBI is India's central bank of India that was established in 1st April 1935. Its HQ is in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
    - The functions of RBI are to overseeing monetary policy, issuing currency, managing foreign exchange, working as a bank for government and as a banker of scheduled commercial banks.
    - Presently, the Governor of RBI is Shri Shaktikanta Das.
