According to Steel Users Federation of India (SUFI), India has overtaken Japan to become the second largest producer of crude steel in the world. China is the largest producer of crude steel in the world, which accounts for more than 50% of production. Crude steel production in India was 93.11 million tonnes (tons) for the period from 2017 to February 2018 and increased by 4.4% compared to April 2016.
