Nitin Gadkari inaugurates Chamba Tunnel (440m) under Chardham Pariyojana via Video Conferencing


  • Union Transport & Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari has inaugurated the Chamba Tunnel (440m) under Chardham Pariyojana via Video Conferencing. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gadkari said that the tunnel will significantly reduce the time taken by travelers on the Rishikesh-Dharasu and Gangotri stretch of the Chardham Highway.
  • Chamba Tunnel,
    - The Chamba Tunnel is a 440-meter long Tunnel and has been built below Chamba town on Rishikesh-Dharasu Road Highway (NH 94) by Border Roads Organisation (BRO). Chamba Tunnel is a Horseshoe type tunnel with 10-meter carriageway width and 5.5-meter vertical clearance. The sanctioned cost for this project is Rs 107.07 Crore, and the Awarded cost is Rs 86 Crore.
    In spite of that, the Chardham project costing around Rs 12,000 crore approximately 889 Km of Highway Construction is to be done. BRO has been entrusted for construction of 250 Km-stretch leading to holy shrine Gangotri and Badrinath.
