- US Navy has successfully test-fired a new high-energy laser weapon that can destroy aircraft mid-flight. It will provide defense against drones or armed small boats. The power of the laser weapon is expected to be a 150-kilowatt.
The US Navy has been developing Directed-Energy Weapons (DEWs), to include lasers, since the 1960s.
- About Directed-Energy Weapons (DEWs),
- It is an electromagnetic system, which is capable of converting chemical or electrical energy to radiated energy and focusing it on a target. It results in physical damage that degrades, neutralizes, defeats, or destroys an adversarial capability.
