- A team of Scientists of the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) has discovered 3 new plant species in the Western Ghats in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
1. Eugenia Sphaerocarpa:- This species is discovered in the Kakkayam Area of the Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala state at a height of 800 m. And, it belongs to the Myrtaceae or Rose Apple Family.
2. Goniothalamus Sericeus:- This species is discovered in the Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary of Tamil Nadu state at a height of 1400 m. And, it belongs to the Annonaceae family of Custard Apple.
3. Memecylon Nervosum:- This species is discovered in the Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary of Tamil Nadu state at a height of 700-900 m. And, it belongs to the Melastomataceae (Kayamboo or Kaasavu in local parlance) family.

- The Botanical Survey of India was formed by the East India Company (EIC) on 13th February 1890 under the supervision of Sir George King who became the first ex-officio Director. And, now it comes under the control of the Government of India Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Changes. Its headquarter is in Kolkata, West Bengal. At Present, the Director of BSI is Dr. A. A. Mao.
