A team of Scientists of the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) has discovered 3 new plant species in the Western Ghats in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. 1. Eugenia Sphaerocarpa:- This species is discovered in the Kakkayam Area of the Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala state at a height of 800 m. And, it belongs to the Myrtaceae or Rose Apple Family. 2. Goniothalamus Sericeus:- This species is discovered in the Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary of Tamil Nadu state at a height of 1400 m. And, it belongs to the Annonaceae family of Custard Apple. 3. Memecylon Nervosum:- This species is discovered in the Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary of Tamil Nadu state at a height of 700-900 m. And, it belongs to the Melastomataceae (Kayamboo or Kaasavu in local parlance) family.
