ICMR-NIV, Pune developed ELISA Test Kit for COVID-19


  • ICMR-National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune has developed the first indigenous ELISA Test Kit - COVID KAVACH for antibody detection of COVID-19. The first batch of the ELISA Test Kit has produced by the company Zydus Cadila.
  • Highlights,
    ICMR said that the ELISA kit has been found to have a sensitivity of 98.7% and specificity of 100% on external validation. ELISA Test Kit can process 90 samples together in two-and-a-half hours. Besides, ELISA-based testing is easily possible even at the district level as the ELISA kit has an inactivated virus.
    In spite of that, ICMR has also been approached by Cipla Private Limited and NextGen Life Sciences for providing a non-exclusive license for COVID Kavach Elisa.
