President R. N. Kovind nominated Ranjan Gogoi to Rajya Sabha


  • On 16th March 2020, President Shri Ram Nath Kovind nominated Former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi to the Rajya Sabha. President of India nominates 12-members to the Rajya Sabha for a period of 6-years to their contributions towards arts, literature, sciences, and social services.
  • Raghunath Mohapatra (Art) was the first member to be elected to the Rajya Sabha from 14th July 2018 to 13th July 2024. While Sonal Mansingh (Art) was the first woman to be elected to the Rajya Sabha.
  • Ranjan Gogoi,
    - Ranjan Gogoi served as the 46th Chief Justice of India from 2018-19. He is the 3rd Supreme Court Judge to serve in the Rajya Sabha, after Ranganath Mishra (21st) and Baharul Islam.
