- Vini Mahajan has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Punjab. She is a 1987 batch IAS Officer and the first Women Chief Secretary of the state. She replaced Karan Avtar Singh, who has been appointed as the Special Chief Secretary, Governance Reforms and Public Grievances of the state.

- At Present, Vini Mahajan is the only Punjab cadre officer in the state to hold a Secretary’s post at the Centre.
- Besides, She became the first woman officer to be posted as DC of Ropar district in 1995.
- Vini has received the National Literacy Award for the Best Performance in India.
