India elected as Non-Permanent UNSC Member for a two year period


  • India has elected as a Non-Permanent UNSC Member for a period of two years. India got 184 votes out of 193. Besides, Ireland, Mexico, and Norway also won the UN Security Council elections. India was a candidate for a Non-Permanent seat from the Asia-Pacific category for the 2021-22 term.
  • This is the 8th time that India won the seat at the UN High-table, which consists of the 5 Permanent and 10 Non-Permanent members.

    - Ensuring international peace and security,
    - Recommending the admission of new UN members to the General Assembly,
