- The Central government has approved to rename the Kolkata Port Trust to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Port. Kolkata Port Trust is the oldest operating port in India, which was opened in 1870 and was constructed by the British East India Company.
- The Port has two distinct dock systems:-
1. Kolkata Docks at Kolkata
2. And, the other one is a Deep Water Dock at Haldia Dock Complex, Haldia.
- Syama Prasad Mukherjee,
Syama Prasad Mukherjee was an Indian politician and barrister. On 21st October 1951, he was formed the Bharatiya Jana Sangh with the help of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Besides, he had also served as the Minister for Industry and Supply in Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet.
