Krishnendu Majumdar - New Chairman of British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA)


  • Krishnendu Majumdar has been elected as the new chairman of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). He replaced Pippa Harris, who had been appointed as the chairperson of BAFTA in 2018. Krishnendu Majumdar is the first person of color to be named as the chairman of BAFTA in its 73 year-long histories of BAFTA.
  • Prior to this, Krishnendu Majumdar had served as the;
    i) Chairman of the Learning and New Talent Committee from 2006-10.
    ii) Chairman of the Television Committee from 2015-19.
  • British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA),
    - The BAFTA Film Awards is a yearly award show, which is presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). Its objective is to honor the best British and international contributions to film.
    - It was founded in 1947 as The British Film Academy by David Lean, Alexander Korda, Carol Reed, Charles Laughton, Roger Manvell, and others.
    - Firstly, it was awarded on 29th May 1949.
