- Indian newspaper editor & novelist Raj Kamal Jha (age 54 years) won the 2020 Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize for his book 'The City and the Sea'. The book reflects the tragedy of the life of Nirbhaya and masculinity in society.

- Raj was born in Bhagalpur, Bihar. At Present, Raj works as the Editor-in-Chief of The Indian Express.
- He has written 5 novels that have been translated into more than 12 languages including German, French, Hebrew, Turkish, Dutch, and Italian.
- Besides Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize, Raj also won International Press Institute’s India Award for Excellence in Journalism; and the Mumbai Press Club’s Journalist of the Year award.

- It is a literary honor in India, which conferred yearly to Indian authors (residing in India or abroad) in novels, short stories, poetry, and drama.
- It was founded in 2018 by US-based independent and non-profit publishing house Maitreya Publishing Foundation (MPF).
- The winners receive USD 10,000 as the prize money along with a Rabindranath Tagore statuette.
