- The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has launched a newly-built 'Interceptor Boat (ICGS C-454)' in Surat, Gujarat. It has been built by Larsen and Toubro (L&T). It is a 27 meter-long boat, which has a maximum speed of 45 nautical miles or 83 km per hour and has "Excellent seakeeping, maneuverability and endurance range of 500 nautical miles.

- It is a 4th Armed Forces of India, Search, Rescue & Maritime Law Enforcement agency that protects India's maritime interests and enforces its maritime law, with jurisdiction over the territorial waters of India, including its contiguous zone and exclusive economic zone.
- It was established on 18th August 1978 by the Coast Guard Act, 1978 of the Parliament of India. It comes under the control of the Ministry of Defence.
