Kerala used 'Nightingale-19' & 'Karmi Bot' robots for COVID-19 patients


  • The Kerala state is using the 'Nightingale-19' & 'Karmi Bot' robots to minimize human interaction in the COVID-19 treatment. These robots reduce the interaction between COVID-19 patients and health workers and it addresses the shortage of PPE kits by minimizing its use.
  • Nightingale-19 Robot,
    The Nightingale-19 robot is being used to provide food and medicines to COVID-19 patients in Ancharakandi, Kannur (Kerala). The robot also has a special display facility, attached to it, that allows patients to communicate with health workers and their relatives. Nightingale 19 was designed by a group of engineering students with the support of the State Health Department.
  • KARMI-Bot Robot,
    Besides, the other robot named 'KARMI-Bot' is being used to assist patients in the COVID-19 isolation ward at Ernakulam Government Medical College. It serves food and medicines to COVID-19 patients, collects trash, performs disinfection, and enables video calls between the doctor and patients. The robot is developed by ASIMOV robotics, a company working under the Kerala start-up mission.
