Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University develops Vaccine candidate


  • The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai has developed a Vaccine Candidate against SARS-CoV-2 through 'Reverse Vaccinology'. Prior to this, the reverse vaccinology has been used for developing vaccinations for meningococcal and staphylococcal infections.
  • The department of immunology along with senior professors has identified a synthetic polypeptide that prevents the virus from entering the human cell or reproduces within cells.
  • Synthetic polypeptides are important polymers in protein science that consist of a repeating sequence of certain amino acids or substances that make a protein.
