- Laisenia Qarase, the 6th Prime Minister of Fiji passed away. He was 79 years. He was the founder of the Soqosoqo Duavata Ni Lewenivanua Party. He was the native of Vanua Balavu Island in the Lau archipelago. And, he was one of many Lauans to have held top leadership positions in Fiji.
