- Every year on 12th April International Day of Human Space Flight is celebrated throughout the world. The day also commemorates the anniversary of the first human space flight by Yuri Gagarin (1961). In Russia, this day is observed as Cosmonautics Day.

- This day was proclaimed at the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 7th April 2011. The main purpose of this day is to reaffirm the important contribution of space science and technology in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs).
- Yuri Gagarin,
- Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin was a Soviet citizen and cosmonaut. Yuri was the first human to journey into outer space on 12th April 1961 in Vostok-1 space flight.
